Essex Council supported Mayor Sherry Bondy’s motion to direct Town Administration to send a letter to Environment Canada, requesting a summary of its severe weather notification and warning processes and procedures, including target deliverable times and channels used to deliver such notifications and warnings.

That took place at the June 16 meeting.

The resolution notes the residents of the Town of Essex rely on accurate notifications and timely warnings from Environment Canada to prepare for severe weather.

This motion was made under New Business, as it was considered meeting the criteria of being either urgent or minor.

Over the past few years, during recent storm events, Bondy said a storm will go through town and the alert from Environment Canada will pop up on phones after the fact.

“I am hearing a lot of different feedback in the community that we need more radar monitoring here in southern Essex County, because we don’t have a lot,” Bondy said. “I’d like to find out what they do and how, maybe, we can get them to improve upon their processes.”
